Muscles of Steel Triathlon set to sell out.

The Muscles of Steel Triathlon 2008 at the home of the Olympic Rowing Basin 2012. With the whole facility and location being used for this event, it will certainly generate some great racing and some of the best spectator friendly viewing around.
Entries are filling up fast with only 60 spaces left for the main race (1.5km Open water swim,40km traffic free bike and 10km flat and fast run.)

If a Triathlon sounds like to much for you there is also a 10km run which is two laps around the lake. Very flat and very fast. Perfect for a PB.

Dorney Rowing lake has some great views of Windsor Castle and surrounding Berkshire country side. With completely closed roads, it makes for a great family location.

10km Results and photos now up.

Fortunately the expected stormy weather just about held off for the Dorney lake 10km running race on Sunday 9th March. The fast and flat course promised pb potential with only a stiff breeze on the return leg up the lake threatening to slow the athletes down. From the gun James Sumpter of Thames Valley Harriers leapt into the lead dragging a handful of other runners through the first kilometre in an ambitious 3min 05sec. Though his pace inevitably slowed a little Sumpter proved to be the strongest man of the day clocking 31.37 for a comfortable victory over Andrew Dunwoody who bravely stayed in touch with the leader until the 3km point. Fast finishing Dean Charette clocked 33.12 to round off the top 3. In the ladies race Danielle Sanderson enjoyed an 80 second victory margin over Fiona Moorehead-Lane recording 37:54 to 39:14 with Laura Butt finishing seconds later in 39.22 for 3rd. The next 10km is scheduled for London Marathon day April 13th and entries are available online in advance and also on the day.

Many thanks to AntBliss for providing the online photos of the race. Please see www.antbliss.com All you have to do is type your race number in to their search engine and your photos will appear!

F3 Duathlon Race report by Doug Hall

Results for the Duathlon are now up.

4th place Doug Hall had the following words to say about the race.

Clear blue skies, very little wind, and fantastic sunshine provided excellent racing conditions for the first F3 event at dorney lake for 2008. Ben Mason and his events team had been up since the crack of dawn to ensure the 100+ duathletes had a safe, fast course for some brilliant racing.

Shortly after the start of the main race, a group of around 8 athletes headed by votwo's Rob Bowles had broken away as the turned around the first of two opening laps. A few athletes dropped slightly off the pace as Declan Doyle and Bowles pushed the pace. Another Votwo athlete Doug Hall, was running through the faster starters closely followed by quick bikers Richard Brady and Alex Wake.

Onto the bike and the front runners had around 30secs advantage over the rest of the field. With nobody wanting to push the pace, this lead to the strong bikers; Hall, Brady, and Wake making the most of the fast conditions and taking control of the front of the race after the end of lap 2. Over laps four and five Brady and Wake pushed on, with Doyle, hanging in there, putting distance between the Votwo boys Hall and Bowles.

Through transition number 2 and out on the run, Brady and Doyle set off like they had stolen something and set about working together to create a lead over the rest of the field. With 1st going to Doyle in 1:06:02, and 2nd place to Brady 20sec behind. Bowles chased down both Hall and Wake with a fine piece of paced running to take 3rd place. Wake hung onto 4th followed by a fast finishing Hall in 5th.

In the women's race Kerri Renshaw, showed a clean pair of heels over both disciplines. Recording the fastest run and bike splits to take the win in 1:16:44, with Ingrid Hansen taking 2nd and Emily Procter in 3rd rounding out a competitive women's race.

In all 71 duathletes made it around the course, and with the weather the way it was, it felt like summer was just around the corner.

The next F3 Duathlon is on the 9th March. See you there!
